Harry Ranney
March 1, 2002
Page 5
(4)
Cover of Species X
Relative Cover of Species X = % Total Vegetative Cover
Post-mining success of species diversity will be determined by comparing the relative cover values
of the reclaimed areas with the values ascertained within the reference area vegetation community.
The species diversity standard for the AVF area, as stated in the permit, calls for the establishment of
three cool-season grasses and one perennial forb, each with a relative cover value between 3 and 40
percent. The species diversity standard for the two reclaimed dryland sample units is the
establishment of two cool-season grasses, one warm-season grass, and one perennial forb, each
having a relative cover value between 3 and 60 percent. There is no cover requirement for shmb
species.
Kaiser will submit data obtained during the 2002 sampling event in the fall of 2002. Kaiser expects
to submit an application for Phase III bond release on the AVF Reclaimed Area in the fall of 2002.
We are planning to initiate sampling on July 22, 2002. If you have any questions or need additional
information on our scope ofwork, please feel free to contact me at (303)850-0930. We welcome all
comments from the CDMG.
Sincerely,
~k -
Chuck Florian
Staff Ecologist
