DATA ANALYSIS
I At the Chimney Rock Mine, three vegetation communities will be reclaimed including
dryland pasture, irrigated pasture, and rangeland/wildlife habitat. The following discussion
provides a description of each community with the revegetation success criteria. The
Vegetation Map (Map 2 of the permit) has been revised to reflect these communities and
Table 1 presents a summary of the revegetation standards.
I All data which has been used in this analysis are contained in the appendices of this
document. Data collected during 1990 for the proposed reference areas are presented in
Appendix 1. Data collected on the East Pit reclaimed area during 1988 are contained in
Appendix 2. Additional data collected on the East Pit reclaimed area during 1987 are
contained in Appendix 3. Data collected on the irrigated pasture are contained in
~ Appendix 4.
SPECIES DIVERSITY
Using the CMLRD-recommended method, the reclamation success standard for species
diversity in the dryland pasture will be establishment of 2 cool season grasses, 1 warm season
grass, and 1 perennial forbs. In addition, each of these species must have a relative cover
value between 3 percent and 60 percent. Seed mixes for the dryland pasture are provided
in Tables 16 and 16C. The rangeland/wildlife habitat will have the same diversity standard
as the dryland pasture. Seed mixes for the rangeland/wildlife habitat are provided in Tables
16, 16B, and 16C.
For the irrigated pasture, the reclamation standard will be establishment of 2 cool season
grasses, 1 warm season grass, and 2 perennial forbs. Again, each species must have a relative
cover value between 3 percent and 40 percent. The seed mix for the irrigated pasture is
provided in Table 2. The mix was determined using sampling data collected in the irrigated
pasture area.
VEGETATIVE COVER
The vegetative cover standard will be the same for all of the reclaimed vegetation types.
However, it will be calculated using the applicable reference area. The vegetative cover
standard for a reclaimed area will be 90 percent of the reference area as sampled at the
time of revegetation success analysis (see Table 1).
PRODUCTION
^ The production standard will also be the same for all of the reclaimed vegetation types.
Again, the standard will be determined using the reference areas. Production will be 90
' percent of the reference area at the time of revegetation success analysis (see Table 1).
4
