If the condition of the range deteriorates, broom snakeweed,
Fendler threeawn, cheatgrass, and annual sunflowers increase. Where
the range is in poor condition, these plants are dominant. Grazing
should be managed so that the desirable balance of species is
maintained in the plant community.
If the range vegetation is seriously deteriorated, seeding is
needed. For successful seedings, a seedbed should ba prepared and the
seeds drilled. Tha plants selected for seeding should meet the
seasonal requirements of livestock or wildlife, or both.
The management practices suitable for use on this unit are proper
grazing use and a planned grazing system. Brush management improves
deteriorated areas of range that are producing more woody shrubs than
were present in the potential plant community.
This unit provides wildlife habitat for mule deer, cottontail,
hawks, and eagles.
This unit is well suited to irrigated crops. It is limited mainly
by lack of a dependable source of irrigation water. Irrigation water
can bs applied by the sprinkler 6r controlled flooding irrigation
methods. Th• method used generally is governed by the crop. Under a
high level of management, this unit is capable of producing 22 tons of
corn silage per acre, 5.5 tons of •Ifalfa hay per acre, 4.5 tone of
grass hay per acre, 110 bushels of barley per acre, or 80 bushels of
oats per acre.
This unit is wall suited to recreational development.
This unit is well suited to homesit• development. If the Barx
soil is used for septic tank absorption fields, the limitation of
moderate permeability can b• overcome by increasing the size of the
absorption field.
This map unit is in capability subclasses IIIe, irrigated, and
IVs, nonirrigated. It is in Semidesert Sandy Loam 1326 range site.
X21
