<br />~~~ <br />b'/88 <br />PROGRESSO SERIES <br />The Progresso series consists of moderately deep, well drained <br />soils on old terraces, benches, mesas, upland hills, and ridges. <br />These soils formed in alluvium derived dominantly from sandstone. <br />Slope is 1 to 12 percent. Elevation is 5,300 to 6,800 feet. Tne <br />average annual precipitation ~s 12 to 15 inches, the average annual <br />air temperature is 45 to 48 degrees F, and the average frost-free <br />season is 90 to 130 days. <br />These soils are fine-loamy, mixed, mesic Ustollic Haplargids. <br />Typical pedon of Progresso loam, in an area of Barx-Progresso <br />complex, 3 to 12 percent slopes, about 100 feet east and 2,300 feet <br />north of the southwest corner of Sec. 16, T. 48 N., R. 17 W. <br />A--O to 7 inches; reddish brown (5YR 5/4> loam, dark reddish <br />brown (SYR 3/4) moist; weak fine granular structure; slightly hard, <br />very friable, slightly sticky and plastic; mildly alkaline; clear <br />smooth boundary. <br />Bt--7 to 14 inches; reddish brown (SYR 5/4> clay loam; reddish <br />brown (5YR 4/4) moist; weak medium subangular structure; hard, <br />friable, slightly sticky and plastic; mildly alkaline; clear smooth <br />boundary. <br />Btk--14 to 24 inches; reddish brown (SYR 5/4) clay loam, <br />yellowish red (5YR 4/6) moist; moderate medium subangular blocky; <br />hard, friable, slightly sticky and plastic; calcium carbonate <br />segregated in common fine irregularly shaped soft masses; 20 percent <br />calcium carbonate equivalent; moderately alkaline; gradual wavy <br />boundary. <br />
