Erickson, E.P.S.
Subject: M 76-059
Cortez Sandstone Quarry
Dear Mr. Erickson:

4 ~r+~-1 /~~?
~ ~ ~ 1996
Division of Minerals 8 Geoio9Y
Salvaged topsoil stockpiled at the north end of the quarry site shall be evenly spread over
disturbed areas of the north edge and east edge of the excavation just outside of the remnant
headwalls. Such topsoiling should assist with re-vegetation of the disturbed areas and also serve
to prevent surface water runoff spill-over into the pit area, by slightly elevating the surface.
Per your earlier telephone inquiry please be advised the sandstone blasting is accomplished using
3 1/2 or 4 1/2-inch diameter drilled holes (depending upon the contract driller used) in fifreen-
foot depths, filled with ammonium nitrate (Anfo or Prill) powder and an ammonium-based
dynamite and electric cap igniter. Powder required is usually about one pound per cubic yard of
rock blasted.
Yours very truly,
NIELSONS, INC.
~~~
Dou las L.
