(MCC) to insta116 seismic <br />monitoring stations on the Paonia Ranger District south of Somerset, CO. These seismic <br />stations, in cooperation with the National Institute for Occupational Safety will help MCC <br />monitor seismic activity caused by mining operations. <br />The proposed monitoring locations are within T. 13 S, R. 90 W., 6'h PM, Section 28, 29, 32, 36; <br />T. 14 S, R. 89 W., Section 7; and T. 14 S, R. 90 W., 6`h PM, Section 3 (see attached map). Each <br />individual seismic station consists of a secured vault built from a 3-4 foot length of 24" diameter <br />corrugated pipe buried in the ground, with approximately 6" of the pipe above ground. This <br />vault will house the seismic equipment. Adjacent to each vault will be a solar panel (for power) <br />and radio antenna mounted on a 4" square post. Surface disturbance for the construction of the 6 <br />seismic stations is expected to be a maximum of 0.02 acres. The operating life of stations will be <br />approximately 6 years, after which the equipment will be removed and site disturbance <br />reclaimed. The GMUG will be conducting an environmental analysis in accordance with the <br />National Environmental Policy Act on this proposal.
