Energy Fuels Coal, Inc. <br />Southfield Mine <br />Additional Responses: <br />Permit Application Form for Dewatering Well <br />May, 1991 <br />1) Pursuant to Colorado statutes, annual appropriation should be <br />stated in Item No. 3 of the Application. It is the total amount <br />of ground water to be pumped from the mine in an year. <br />Response <br />A rev a of annual pumping rate data for the North <br />Dewatering Well indicate steadily decreasing annual <br />quantity due to conditions in the mine. For the <br />purpose of estimating the annual amount of ground <br />water to be pumped from the mine, we have averaged <br />data from 1990 and 1991 (projected) to a'quantity of <br />25 acre-feet. Item No. 3 of the application has been <br />corrected accordingly. <br />2) The application must be signed by the applicant. <br />Response <br />T~plication has been signed by Southfield's <br />Mine Engineer. <br />3) Please indicate the surface area of the treatment pond. <br />all the water pumped be discharged to a live stream? <br />Response <br />Water rom the North Dewatering Well enters a hypalon- <br />lined pond prior to discharge. The average surface <br />area of the pond is 1.1 acre-feet. Water from the pond <br />is discharged via underground pipeline to an <br />approved discharge point on Magpie Creek. Magpie <br />Creek, an ephemeral drainage which flows only in <br />response to precipitation events, flows into Newlin <br />Creek approximately 1 1/4 miles below the discharge <br />point. <br />Will <br />4) Are there any existing wells less than 600 feet of this mine? <br />Response <br />T ere are two existing wells less than 600 feet from <br />the mine not located on the same tract (Vento Trust) <br />as the North Dewatering Well.
