Pitch Project Memorandum - September 13, 1984
is from Saguache, Colorado, which has a very different physiographic
location than the site of the Pitch Mine near Marshall Pass. Saguache
is located near the northern erd of the San Luis Valley on the east
side of the La Garita Mountains and the Cochetopa Hills, It is in the
rain shadow of these mountains and is quite arid. The area of the
Pitch Mine on the west side of the Sawatch Fange at a considerably
higher elevation than Saguache receives considerably morn moisture.
E;;trapolation of the data from Saguache to the Pitch Mine is net
valid. There is prohabiy data available frem locations that more
closely appro:simate the conditions at the Pitch Mine. One has only to
have Seen near the Pitch Mine in the springtime to 4::no:v that there is
water .available for infiltration and r!:naff on a yearly basis. The
conclusion reached in the re^ort is cbviously not justified.
Subheading: v.i.1.2 Leaching of the Ore Files Pram Single F'recipit.ation
Pages. 5-o to J-tr7
r'.uga .cj-J - i eaCh cra=tlQn
ithough the r=s~.lts of a series" ^f '_~ach tests are Guct=d few
details are given as to conditions of the tests ar the starting .mater-
ial.
__e ~-6 - iiydralagic r'^aracteristics of !~l~.ste .'ile
I) The erperimen±s far determining the _.ansit time of water
through the waste pile are ..~~t cescri~,ed and na results from these
=.:per:ments are given.
