'~ <br />Okanogan Highlands Bottling <br />Company <br />The <br />Threat <br />Battle Mountain Gold (BMG), a <br />multinational mining company from <br />Houston, Texas, has proposed <br />Washington State's first large scale <br />open-pit cyanide leach gold mine on <br />Buckhorn Mountain in Okanogan <br />County. More than 97 millions tons <br />of earth would be blasted for a <br />pickup truck load of gold. If <br />permitted, this mine would: <br />• Blast a 117 acre, 350 foot deep <br />pit to fill up with polluted water <br />that will not meet state drinking <br />water standards. <br />• Put a toxic sludge of heavy <br />metals and cyanide in a tailings <br />pond directly over Marias <br />Creek. <br />• Bury entire hillsides in waste <br />rock that could create acid <br />mine drainage. <br />• Encourage many other <br />multinational mining <br />companies to proceed with <br />their plans to strip, chemically <br />leach and destroy entire <br />mountains in the Okanogan <br />Highlands. <br />• Pollute the already <br />overallocated water resources <br />which threatens the livelihood <br />of downstream water users. <br />• Eliminate traditional hunting, <br />fishing, gathering and treaty <br />Send a message in a <br />Bottle to <br />Skipwreck the <br />1872 Minine <br />Law <br />E Dlail OHBC <br />POB 433, Tonasket, <br />WA 98855 <br />509-485-39[2 <br />OHBC <br /> <br />
