Mountain Coal Company
West Elk Mine
Post Olfice Box 591
Somerset, Colorado 81434
Telephone 303 9.'35015
Fax 303 9235595
October 31, 1994
Mr. & Mrs. Larry Mautz
1938 Highway 133
Paonia. CO 81428
Re: Subsidence Survey
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Mautz:
' III IIII VIII IIII III
999
Please sign here as confirmation that
you have received this letter.
Da t
To verify our arrangements, Mountain Coal Company (MCC) is planning to conduct a survey of
your new cabin and the surrounding area on November 3rd. In the case of bad weather,
November 4th may be the option (and we would notify you of such). This survey should only
require a few hours that day -mostly outside the building. We will also survey the location of the
cracks that were recently filled in the road.
I appreciate that you called us about those cracks. The professional Geologists and Engineers
investigating subsidence for MCC took some time to take a look at them when they were
conducting their field study the week before last and will include them in the findings of their
study. (Pardon that it wasn't clearly communicated that they might be on your property on
Friday, as well as Thursday that week.) Should you notice other cracking or other unusual
changes, please contact me so that this information can also be investigated and necessary
maintenance completed.
Also, for clarification, MCC has not given nor will not give anyone permission to hunt or camp on
your property nor MCC property. You are authorized by the June 1993, agreement with MCC,
to access and limit trespass on MCC's property in Section 18, except to MCC, its assigns, agents
and lessees, as is also specified in the agreement.
As you are aware, the construction of the fan facilities continues at the fan bench site, and will be
the primary activity in this azea for the next few months. During short periods of time (one to two
hours), the road may be blocked as equipment for the construction project is being hauled in or
out. We will try to contact you then to coordinate your and our traffic on the Lone Pine road.
Please feel free to call me at 929-2256 or Phil Schmidt should you have questions.
Sincerely,
~~ //~/~
Kathleen G. Welt,
Environmental Supervisor
t~W,1
