107. Wildfires: Increased human use of lands in the project area can lead to increased risk of
wildfire. How will employees be trained to prevent fires and respond, if necessary?
Due to the dn~ climate and the abundance of natural potential fuel sources in the
project area, procedures will be developed for wildfire response. Employees wil[
receive ongoing response training.
108. Vandalism: Will any specific measures be taken to prevent vandalism at wells and
potential public safety hazards? For example, fencing project area, posting warning signs, or
retaining personnel to patrol facilities.
Due to the remote location of the Piceance Site, security personnel will not 6e
necessary. The Piceance processing plant site will be fenced and gated, with signs
posted at all entrances. Operating personnel will 6e present at the plant 24 hours per
day. Persons not associated with American Soda's operation will not be allowed
unsupervised access to the processing plant area. Outside contractors will be
adequately supervised during any work performed within the processing plant area
and will be informed of health and safety procedures. The evaporation pond will
also be fenced for public safety and to exclude wildlife and wild horses.
The Piceance Site other than the processing plant area will have restricted access
depending on the locations of active solution mining and monitoring operations.
For example,t during commercial operations, signs will 6e posted around the
perimeter of of any active mining panel warning the general public of the operation.
Reads that pass through the panel will be gated.
Active solution mining wells will have rigid plumbing connected to the wellhead
to deter vandalism. They will also be labeled. Monitoring wells will be equipped
with locking caps.
109. Employee safety: What kind of Emergency Plans will be in place? What kind of
employee training will be required? What about subcontractors?
To be addressed later.
Hazardous Materials
110. Please provide a list of all hazardous materials that will be used for the construction and
operation of this mine; quantities that will be used; quantities stored on site; and how the
materials will be transported to the site.
To be addressed later.
40
