Page 4
South of Shop
The narrow strip across the westerly facing slope in the South of
Shop Area that remains under bond was inventoried. The area was
divided in the same manner as the 1992 survey for consistency. The
concentrated flow feature referenced in the 1992 report was also
measured. This concentrated flow measurement took place in May of
1993 and the BLM method assessment of the slopes was done in
October of 1992.
Concentrated Flow Feature No. 1
The location of Concentrated Flow Feature No. 1 is shown in the
1992 report on Exhibit 1, Sheet 2 of 2. The cross sections
measured are detailed in the 1992 report on Exhibit 2. The feature
appears to be reasonably stable with rock armoring present at the
base. The 5 cross sections measured in 1992 were measured again
and the results are listed below. Graphical representation of
these measurements are found in Figures 1. Several of the stakes
used for reference points in 1992 had been disturbed by wildlife.
These stakes were replaced in a manner closest to the original
position as possible.
Cross Section 1 In the area of this cross section vegetation is
established on the sides and on the bottom of the channel. Rock
cobble on the bottom varies in size from 1" to 4" diameter with the
majority in the 1 to 2 inch range. Side slopes are shown in Figure
1. Plotted data shows some agradation of the channel in this area.
Current conditions at this site show little possibility of future
excessive erosion.
Cross Section 2 This area shows vegetation on the side slopes and
on the bottom of the channel. Recent flow pattern from snow melt
were visible at the bottom of the channel. Rock in the channel
varies from 1 to 3 inches in diameter. Side slopes are shown in
Cross Section 2 of Figure 1. Very little change is noted in the
profile of this cross section from last year to this year. A
slight shift is noted in the graph possibly due to the monuments
being shifted slightly. This cross section area appears stable.
Cross Section 3 In the vicinity of this cross section vegetation
is established on the side slopes but very little exists at the
bottom of the channel. Rock fragments in the channel bottom vary
from 1 to 3 inches in diameter. Again, minor flow patterns were
witnessed in the bottom of the channel from recent snow melt.
Comparing the graph on the cross section of this area shows that
the northern bank has a decreased slope compared to the 1992
measurements. The lessened slope would lead to the conclusion that
5/26/93 DLB
