1. Upcoming Temporary Seeding, on pit expahsion she. Plan to seed in Mardi 2004 with
ReGreen.
2. Upcoming Permaneht SeBtling, 6h an area that is still being graded as of spring 2004.. It is
expelled to be ready for seeding In August 2004: At that time, depending on moisture
conditions, ReGreen wNl be planted, or the area may be dean cultivated until seeding In the
fail with the permanent mix (Table E-1 of the Reclamation plan):
3: Upcoming-Temporary Reseed.. This Is the visual bens that was seeded.in previous years
with the native seed mix, but was overwhelmed by cereal ryegrass. -The east cutslepe of this
berm Is too steep to mow or drill seed. There is a possibilfy that material may tie, available to
atld to the west side to lessen the slope, first on that side, and then on the east side by
pulling t pushing material west to create slope that can be negotiated safely by machinery,
this would allow seeding !weed control operations tq proceed more etfedlvely and efficiently
using tractor-drawn implements. 'It is uhcertain whether this berm will be permanent or will be
removed during final reclamation.
4. Up~ming Temporary Reseed (Interseedmng). -This topsoil ahd clay storage area has patchy
cover by: previously seeded rhizomatous wheatgrass that was revlousty seeded.
Ihterseeding wfllbe done to:attempt to Improve the cover.
5. Temporary Accomplished Seeding, on material stod~ile: This is (in addiflon to the visual
bens (3)) the zone of worst cereal rye Infestatbn: tt was seeded in 2001, but was .
overwhelmed by cereal rye invasion shortly thereafter. This may be a temporary stockpile or
at least partially temporary. The strategy here is to keep the ry8 from seeding and making
things worse in the valley In general: Most of the stockpile can be mowed by tractor, that
which cannot will have to be hand mowed, or if this becomes onerous, it may be necessary to
spray it dead, then reseed. The 1:1 slope along fhe extreme south end was seeded (n 2001,
coverer with bonded fiber matrix, and watered by hand. Although the steep.south-fAcing sfte
lies limited capacity to support vegetation cover, the cover from that seeding is regarded as
adequate. Good representation'of na0ve spades Is present.
6. Upcoming Temporary Seeding,. on graded pk backfiil. This should be ready be. ripped to a
depth of 12 Inches immediatety, then seeded with ReGreen: The Temporary seed mix (Table
E-4 of Reclamation Plan) will be sown into the ReGreen standing dead in late fall 2004.
7. Upcoming Permanent, on outslopes of main pit backfilfarea. This area will be seeded with
ReGreen in March 2004; areas too steep to drill will.ba handseeded{some areas approach
2(h);1(v).: A small area of coarse rock cover will remain as part of pU drainage for now,
Weed control will be espedally important here because it is Immediately adjacent to the
heavy cereal ry9 infestation on Site 5.
8. Permanent Accomplished, on crusher platform northwest outslope. This area will probably
need mowing to prevent some cereal rye from settlng seed. It was seeded in 2001.
9. Permanent Accomplished; on the south end of %imestone ridge". This area should tie
monitored for weed problems and the need to be mowed.
40. Upcoming Permanent Reseeding, at very Up of south'{imestone ridge". Here, what may be
excessivety calia3reous subsoil ended up on top; after shallow (81nch) ripping to relieve
possible compadlom, approxhnately 6 Inches of growth medum will be brought fore
elsewhere on sfte ro topdress this small area. Area will be seeded to ReGreen2s soon as
possible atxf than to the permanent mix (Table E-1 of the Recamation Plan) in late fall 2004.
