~:. .
Letter to Curtis Bernhardt -2- April 26, 1997
All parameters must be analyzed to determine their dissolved
concentration. The field parameters of pH, temperature, electrical
conductivity, and depth to water must be determined at the time the
samples are collected. Best management practices must be employed in
the collection of the samples, particularly in terms of decontamination
of sampling equipment prior to sample collection. The Division will
expect to receive the results of second quarter 1997 sampling by no
later than July 1, 1997.
In another matter, recent heavy snows in the vicinity of the Gold Hill
Mill and the potential for additional heavy precipitation make it
imperative that the spray evaporation system in the tailing pond be
operated for at least 8 hours every day until such time that there is
insufficient water in the pond to charge the pump. The spray
evaporation system and the land application system are the subject of
an inspection report (inspection by Gary Curtiss, April, 1997) to be
sent under separate cover. You are reminded that the spray evaporation
system is the primary water elimination system at the Gold Hill Mill,
and that the land application system is to be used only if needed to
maintain adequate freeboard in the Hazel-A adit and the tailing pond.
If the land application system is used, the water sampling and analysis
plan detailed in the permit will have to be initiated.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
- ~, ,,;
~~~~~t ~
Allen C.
