We looked over the pit working area including the upper bench and the
adjacent drainages. Bob Wolford, Ouray County Road Foreman, is considering some
proposed changes to the reclamation plan of the pit and wanted BLM's input before any
changes were submitted. Bob wants to adjust the pit boundaries on the southern side of
the pit to allow equipment in the drainage to better mine the pit and allow for a different
reclamation profile.
The following was concluded:
• The consensus was that BLM does not want any equipment in the drainages. The
integrity of the drainage could be destroyed. Equipment can be allowed closerthan the
present 50 feet, but in no case closer than 5 feet above the drainage.
• The stockpile that is stuffing into the drainage must be moved back so it does not erode
into the drainage.
At final pit reclamation, the slopes must be contoured so that thet drain into the pre-
mining drainages as shown on the Dallas 7'/z topographic map (1968). We anticipate
that the plan to drain the total pit area into the drainage on the north side of the pit will
cause future problems in that drainage. Essentially, flow into the northern drainage will
be doubled and during high water flows will not be able to sustain the flow, possibly
causing problems down stream.
Signature of Inspector.
