Riprap installation was completed on 9/22/06. As required
Platte Sand & Gravel, LLC completed placing 805 feet of riprap
material along the river where they had mined within 400 feet of
the river. The line of riprap was placed where the final lake
shore will be when mining is complete in that area. In an
adequacy response dated 12/23/05 we provided information showing
that the river bank was ripraped prior to 2000 when the permit
was issued so no work was needed on the river side or the area.
Within the last year Platte mined within 400 feet of the
river and was required to install riprap material along the lake
bank. In a letter from Pickett Engineering, Inc. dated April 23,
2001 a typical method and location of any lake side ripraping was
discussed. Platte committed to using this design plan to com-
plete any riprap they had to install.
Platte used this method to install the riprap. With the
exception that instead of digging a sloped and back filling they
excavated a wider trench and backfilled with the riprap material
so the cross section distance was the same as a 1:1 would have
been. This was necessary since the gravel being removed would
not hold a 1:1 slope without caving in prior to backfilling. By
doing it this way the riprap is wider than required. During
installation a trench 4 feet wide was excavated approximately 12
