Surface and groundwater aze monitored and a mitigation plan for potential impacts has been
proposed. Surface runofffrom disturbed azeas is channeled to sedimentation ponds located in each
of the West Ridge, Moffat, Center Ridge (mined in previous permit terms) and facilities azeas, and
through a series of four ponds in the tipple azea. Surface water is monitored upstream and
downstream of the mine in Trout Creek, as well as at sediment pond discharge points. Groundwater
is monitored updip and downdip from mining operations, in spoils aquifers, in the Trout Creek
alluvium, and in the Trout Creek sandstone. With the exception of the Moffat, Center Ridge, and
West Ridge ponds, all treatment and monitoring structures will be reclaimed when their use is no
longer warranted.
Water usage at the mine formerly consisted of dust control on roads and at the coal crushing
facilities, and domestic use in the office and bath house buildings. Water used in dust control was
obtained from a pump station located in Trout Creek which no longer exists. Pittsburg & Midway
has obtained rights for all water usage at the operation details of which aze located in Section 3.6 of
the permit application.
Edna Mlne 1 U Pertnii Rrnewal No. 3
