Mr. Bob Kuretich - 2 - November 5, 1985
I then called Richard Fox of the Colorado Department of Health, Air Pollution
Control Division (APCD) in Denver. Mr. Fox indicated that they probably would
not have the authority to require monitoring, but they might be able to
require better dust suppression methods. He referred me to Scott Miller of
the Air Pollution Control Division's Grand Junction Field Office.
On August 29, 1985, I was able to reach Scott Miller, APCD, and inform him of
the problem. Apparently due to a lack of manpower, Mr. Miller's field
schedule is very tight. However, he indicated he would inspect the loadout as
soon as he could and send me a copy of his report and recommendations. At
this point I do not know if he has made the inspection or what he found.
If you desire to contact these people directly the following are their numbers:
Delta County Health Department - 874-9715;
Air Pollution Control Division, Denver - 331-8500; and,
APCD, Grand Junction - 248-7152.
This does not imply that we have given up on your problem. We still intend to
do everything we can to resolve this problem. During our inspection of the
loadout on October 16, 1985, (conducted by Susan Mowry) we placed a compliance
date of November 20, 1985, in which Terror Creek must submit a revised plan to
abate the dust problems at the loadout. We hope the plan will correct the
problem for good. In the past, Terror Creek Mine has been cooperative in
resolving problems with our agency.
We will forward you a copy of the revised dust suppression plan when it
arrives. We still welcome your feedback on whether the problem continues and
we will keep you informed on the progress we make.
Please contact me if you have further comments or questions.
Sinc ely~~ ~
/ ~/'.~ ~~
Robert G.
