Abstract
A cultural resources inventory of three proposed well sites (2.5 acres
each) located on lands administered by the U.S.D.A. Forest Service in the
Minnesota Creek drainage was conducted by Grand River Institute for the
West Elk Coal Company, Inc. of Somerset, Colorado. The study area occurs
in T. 135., R. 90W.,,Sections 33 and 34 in Gunnison National Forest, Gun-
nison County, Colorado. Files searches with the Forest Supervisor's
Office in Delta and the Colorado Preservation Office in Denver produced
no known archaeological and/or historical/architectural sites of signifi-
cance within the vicinity of the study area. A 1011% pedestrian survey
of the three proposed well sites was performed by Carl E. Conner, Project
Archaeologist, on 6 August 1984 under Special Use Permit No. CR-84-O1.
The survey covered approximately 7.5 acres. One isolated find, 5GN1734,
a chert interior flake, was found in the study area but is considered in-
significant. It is recommended that no further consideration of cultural
resources need be given the surface extent of this project.
'.a-- ~ ~ • ~~--~/ 8//~/may
ar onner ate
Project Archaeologist
2
