(iv) (B) p. 24
reference: prompt removal of dust-forming debris.
Enclosed is a photograph of the roadway at the entrance to Western Mobile's
mining site at 5610 Ute Highway. This photograph was taken in December 1998. No
snow cover had been evident for several days, and the haul trucks from this site are
continuously draging roadway debris onto Ute Highway as they exit the mining site.
Fugitive dust goes airborne when the trucks accelerate. Ofher vehicles using Ute
Highway are frequently forced to drive through this debris which creates fugitive dust ,
unnecessary health risks for residents, and safety problems for motorists.
The Watchdogs have been working diligently to improve the air quality in our
region. Today, it seems the air here is far cleaner than it was a year ago, and we hope
that Western Moblle will model its economic growth agenda on strict compliance
with the regulations as well as a philosophy that is compatible with an healthy, sate
and a clean environment.
The Watchdogs respectfully request that a copy of this letter be included in
Western Mobile's mining Docket SU-96-18 that is on file at the Boulder County
Lano Use Department.
Enclosures: Photograph A -view to east
Photograph Al -view to south
~:
Representative Todd Saliman
Representative Bill Swenson
Mr. Richard ling, Director of Air Program, Region 8, USEPA
Mr. Stewart, Mr. Danish, Ms. Mendez, Boulder County Commissioners (over)
"Pmtrcr what's closed to your heart: your family, your friends and your lungs.
