2. The shot-firing unit shall be properly maintained and shall be <br />tested at least every twelve (12) months to insure compliance <br />with the rated capacity. <br />3. The shot-firing unit will be used only by a certified person (or <br />someone under his direct supervision) who is thoroughly <br />familiar with the plans and safeguards required to protect the <br />workmen. <br />4. All safeguards and company rules pertaining to the use of non- <br />permissible shot-firing units shall be posted in a conspicuous <br />place on the surface. <br />5. All underground personnel shall be in a safe area at least <br />one corner and a minimum of 200 feet outby the hottom of <br />the shaft area before shots are fired. The shotfirer will be <br />located on the surface a safe distance from the shaft opening. <br />6. The handling, transportation, storage, and use of permissible <br />explosives and detonators used in conjunction with the non- <br />permissible shot-firing unit shall be done in accordance with all <br />applicable rules and regulations. <br />7. Where misfires occur, a waiting period of at least five (5) <br />minutes sF~all elapse before anyone returns to the shot. After <br />such failure, the blasting cable shall be disconnected from the <br />source of power and the battery ends short-Circuited before <br />electric connections are examined. <br />8. Misfires shall be handled by: 11) Firing a separate charge at <br />least two (21 feet away from and parallel to the misfired <br />charge; 121 Removed by washing the stemming and the <br />charge from the hole with water, or; (31 by inserting and firing <br />a new primer after the stemming has been washed out. <br />9. Avery careful search of the working place and, if necessary, <br />of the coal after it reaches the tipple or at the underground <br />crosscut muck pile shall be done after blasting a misfired hole, <br />to recover un-detonated explosives. <br />10. Blasting cables will be well insulated with no splices, and shall <br />be a minimum of J116 copper wire. (Cables will be 500 feet in <br />length, minimum.) <br />11. All electric detonators and permissible explosives in each shot <br />shall be of the same manufacturer and shall not be mixed. <br />RPPROVED CMS & ~ F E B r ~' ~ '~ <br /> <br />
