~pril 29, 1982
Mr. Ed Bischoff
`~
in that they will allow Dorchester the necessary flexibility
to effectively and properly deal with its reject material
over t::;: next six months.
4) In addition to taking steps to alleviate short-term problems,
Dorchester is also attacking the long-term problem of the
coal fine slurry handling techniques. A belt press has been
ordered for installation in the preparation plant. This
relatively new technology will dewater the fine material
in the preparation plant and will allow us to discontinue
use of the sediment pond as a dewatering facility. With
the belt press on line the dewatered fine material will
either be incorporated in the coarse reject material at
the plant or possibly blended with product coal. In either
case, the fine material handling problem will be eliminated
and the sediment pond returned to its primary function.
We currently anticipate the belt press to be delivered and
on line by the end of .Iuly.
We certainly feel that we have made some considerable progress
in dealing with the issue over the past couple of months. I
hope that the Foregoing narrative will serve to convey to you
the positive approach we are taking toward resolution of the
present situation. I would be happy to hear From you, or the
staff, regarding any comments or suggestions you might have
as we proceed. As always, we are anxious to work with you toward
a mutually agreeable resolution. Please feel free to call at any
time. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Dean R.
