Based on that discussion, we believe the following guidance is appropriate for the posting of signs and
markers.
• the permit boundary be marked in its entirety using brightly painted markers as indicated in the permit
text
• Petmittee identification signs and blasting signs as required by Rule 4.02 be posted at the main entrance
to Lorencito Canyon, Vermejo Park, Cow Canyon, the two locations on Highway 12 which enter the
permit area, Little Bingham Canyon, and every 500 feet along the permit boundary in the vicinity of the
school and homes in Primero
• Regulated access area signs at the appropriate locations on the Jeff Canyon haul road and on the road to
the P3 portal as indicated in the permit text
• mark all disturbed areas, including roads, at an appropriate frequency, prior to disturbance
• mark stream buffer zones as required by Rules 4.02 and 4.05.18
• mark all topsoil piles asrequired
Of particular importance to the Division is the posting of adequate blast warning signs in the vicinity of the local
population. We also feel that the delineation of the mountain top removal disturbed area is important, not only
to the Division but to Lorencito Coal Company as well. Appropriate marking of the disturbed areas should help
avoid issues associated with identification ofmine-related disturbance and assist in on-the-ground identification
of those areas.
If you have any questions, please call me.
Since ely,
~~~~~--
Kent Gorham
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Dan Hernandez, DMG
