. ..~1 ~) Page 2
~~
possible adverse contzibution to the water quality of East Salt
Creek, additional sampling amounts to no more than additional
base line data for the approved permit.
McCLANE CANYON MINE - C-004-80
Like Munger Canyon Mine, McClane Canyon Mine predates the enact-
ment of both state and federal surface mining law. The original
haul road and the mine benches which disturb 6.0 acres of surface
area were permitted under C-004-80. After the permit was issued,
sedimentation controls and topsoil stockpile were constructed and
disturbed an additional 1.7 acres. All of the disturbances off
of the road and working area have been reseeded. During the
cessation of operations, no backfilling, regrading or revegetation
will be performed.
Underground mining at McClane Canyon produced a 5 entry system
1400 feet long and 8 to 16 feet high which intersected a fault.
Entries were then driven 500 and 1800 feet south and north
respectively. During the cessation of operations, these entries
will be maintained and monitored; therefore, the entries will
remain open. If the oportunity arises, the small amount of coal
stockpiled both at the McClane Canyon Mine and the Loma Coal Siding
will be sold and shipped.
All surface water run-off controls will be maintained as described
in C-004-80. Like the Munger Canyon Mine, McClane Canyon Mine
Site has little if any potential to adversely effect the quality
of water in East Salt Creek while no coal is being mined; therefore,
water sampling will be suspended until operations resume.
Please call if I can be of assistance.
Sincerely,
~~~~~~~.
ohn M.
