Investigation reveals that DOE pulled the
wells and left the casings on the ground. A 2002 letter from the operator to its attorney refers to this
situation. It is believed that the final disposition of the wells is referred to in a settlement agreement
between the operator and DOE. The person with access to the needed documentation is on vacation for
the next 3 weeks, so the response date was extended to March 14, 2005. O'Brian suspects that a letter
from DOE would take longer to acquire.
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\KLS\MY DOCUMENTS\PROBLEM LETTERS\M-1979-045, 1-13-05 MEMO TO FILE, ST-1 TC.DOC
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
