<br />-8- <br />SUMhfRRY OF THE REVIEtro' PROCESS <br />The Martinet Strip, located 22 miles southwest of Pagosa Springs, Archuleta County, <br />Colorado, is currentlu operating under Permit No. 78-252, issued by the Colorado <br />1•fined Land Reclamation Board. <br />On February 9, 1981, Chimney Rock Coal submitted a permit application to bring the <br />[4a rti nez Strip into compliance with the Colorado State Program. Since that time, <br />the application has been under review by the Mined Land Reclamation Division <br />(Division). <br />The Preliminary Adequacy Review Letter, which identified deficiencies in the <br />application, was sent to the apnlicant on April 27, 1981. Subsequently, a meeting <br />was held June 1?, 1981 to discuss the enurerated deficiencies. Resolution of the <br />deficiencies is required in order for the Division to make determinations of <br />compliance with the Act. The apnlicant responded to the comments in a letter on <br />August 21, I98I. <br />Subsecuently, several meetings were held to resolve additional issues at the mine <br />site. The applicant has responded to the Division's concerns and additional <br />information has been submitted for re vi es/. The Division, in conjunction with the <br />applicant, has resolved major areas of concern and as a result, the review process <br />has been adequately completed. Therefore, the Division proposes to approve <br />Chimney Rock Coal's permit application, with stipulations. <br />
