-8-
SUMhfRRY OF THE REVIEtro' PROCESS
The Martinet Strip, located 22 miles southwest of Pagosa Springs, Archuleta County,
Colorado, is currentlu operating under Permit No. 78-252, issued by the Colorado
1•fined Land Reclamation Board.
On February 9, 1981, Chimney Rock Coal submitted a permit application to bring the
[4a rti nez Strip into compliance with the Colorado State Program. Since that time,
the application has been under review by the Mined Land Reclamation Division
(Division).
The Preliminary Adequacy Review Letter, which identified deficiencies in the
application, was sent to the apnlicant on April 27, 1981. Subsequently, a meeting
was held June 1?, 1981 to discuss the enurerated deficiencies. Resolution of the
deficiencies is required in order for the Division to make determinations of
compliance with the Act. The apnlicant responded to the comments in a letter on
August 21, I98I.
Subsecuently, several meetings were held to resolve additional issues at the mine
site. The applicant has responded to the Division's concerns and additional
information has been submitted for re vi es/. The Division, in conjunction with the
applicant, has resolved major areas of concern and as a result, the review process
has been adequately completed. Therefore, the Division proposes to approve
Chimney Rock Coal's permit application, with stipulations.
