As you know, these
mines have been in temporary cessation since mid-1984 due to a
poor coal mazket. Recently EFMC has been successful in
negotiating some possible coal supply agreements with vazious
customers located in the southwestern United States. As a
result, we have decided to initiate operations at the Raton Creek
Mines to supply test-burn coal and ultimately, contract coal to
one or more of these potential customers. We aze currently in
the process of initiating renovation work underground and in the
prepazation plant to ready the mine for coal production which is
anticipated to begin oa or about September 10, 1988.
Initial mining operations will be conducted in the Raton
Creek #1 Mine. The Raton Creek #2 Mine will remain in its
current status, for an as yet undetermined period of time. The
coal produced from the Raton Creek #1 Mine will be washed and
hauled to the Burlington Northern Loadout Site in Trinidad where
it will be loaded onto rail cars for shipment. We anticipate
that as eazly as October, 1988 that coal will also be hauled from
the mine site to the Santa Fe Loadout facilities also located in
Trinidad for shipment.
