For the purposes of estimating total vegetative cover, only fvst hit data <br />will be used. <br />SPECIES DIVERSITY: <br />- Because this is a Phase I[ study (versus Phase III), multiple hit data will not be <br />used in calculating relative vegetative cover. Instead, first hit data will be used. In <br />reclaimed communities which are expected to have a simple structure such as this, the <br />correlation between relative cover based on multiple hit data and relative cover based <br />on first hit data can be expected to be extremely high (r>95~a; see Bear No 1 & 2 <br />Mines 1993 Phase ^I Report -Exhibit B, for an example). Therefore, first hit data, <br />which is less time consuming to collect, is considered sufficient for the purposes of this <br />study. <br />
