III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
999
The Corley Company
Phone 6325050 P.O. aa: 1821
COLORADO SPRINGS. COLORADO 80901
Sept. 17, 1990
Mr, Hamlet Barry
Director, Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St.
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Chips:
Following our meeting with you on Sept. 4, 1990, we have not had any
direct communication with MLRD or any questions answered. We did
receive from Energy Fuels a copy of the Additional Adequacy Concerns
letter to Energy from MLRD, dated Aug. 31, 1990. All Weaver of Energy
Fuels indicated on Sept. 12, 1990, that the only communication they
had had from MLRD was a call from Dan Plathews on Sept. 5, 1990, asking
what Energy had told us about the MLRD site visit.
We realize now that our meeting was probably not in our best
interests, and that it only put rfLRD in a defensive position. We
believe now that the proposition is even more unlikely. The above
Additional Adequacy Concerns has several redesign requests although
Dan Mathews said in the meeting that MLRD really didn't want
redesigns; it seems that MLRD is saying one thing to us and saying and
writing other requests to Energy. We do not believe that Energy is
using the MLRD requests to pressure us to sign an unfavorable
agreement. However, we would like to continue our basic premise that
more should be done to encourage Energy to fill the GEC East pit.
We also would like to have reclamation start immediately on the other
GEC disturbed areas. In the last two months, the increase in diesel
fuel price has reduced the reclamation work that can be accomplished
on the fixed amount of the bond money by almost 10Y,.
Finally, we would like to know who is responsible for the GEC West
pit.
Thanks for listening to us; the GEC East pit is so important to us
that we thought that we should try to save the project.
Sincerely,
+~1 -.. n.....- rr;
~~
W.D.
