2.0 Revegetation <br />2.1 Description <br />This specification covers seedbed preparation, and furnishing and placing <br />seed, fertilizer, mulch, and erosion control blankets on regraded areas as <br />designated at the Hawk's Nest West Mine. <br />2.2 West Mine Revegetation <br />A. Site Description <br />The West Mine area is located approximately 21 miles east of Hotchkiss, <br />11 miles east of Paonia, on the north sine of the North Fork of the <br />Gunnison River. A segment of the old State Highway 133 bisects the <br />project area. <br />The total area to be revegetated at the West Mine is approximately 8 <br />acres. Average elevation is approximately 6200 feet, with average annual <br />precipitation of approximately 15 inches. Reclaimed slopes are quite <br />steep, with average gradients of between 20 and 30 percent below the <br />highway, and 40 to 50 percent above the highway. Soils range from loamy <br />to clayey, with variable depth over cooly, rocky, graded spoil. Surface <br />soils are very rocky in some areas. Native vegetation is a dry mountain <br />shrub type dominated by gambel oak, snowberry, serviceberry, wild rose, <br />and mountain mahogany. <br />Fertilizer Application <br />Immediately prior to seedbed preparation, fertilizer shall be uniformly <br />applied over the areas designated for seeding, and immediately <br />incorporated into the soil by tillage methods as discussed below. Either <br />commercial fertilizer or manure may be utilized. <br />Commercial Fertilizer If commercial fertilizer is used, it shall be <br />commercial grade diammonium phosphate (18-46-0) and free flowing, <br />suitable for application with hydraulic or pneumatic type equipment or <br />fertilizer spreaders and conforming to applicable Colorado State <br />Fertilizer laws. Gaked or lumpy fertilizer will not be accepted. The <br />CONTRACTOR shall furnish a supplier's certificate of analysis and <br />weight. All fertilizer shall be in a form readily available to plants. <br />Commercial fertilizer shall be applied at a rate of 300 pounds per acre. <br />Manure Fertilizer shall be dry cow, horse or <br />stockpiled a minimum of one (1) year.
