On slopes less than approximately 33%, one of two mulching procedures <br />shall be used: <br />1. hay or straw mulch, crimped <br />2. hydromulch with tackifier. <br />On slopes between approximately 33 and 60%, as identified by the <br />CONTRACTOR, one of three mulching procedures shall be used: <br />1. hay or straw mulch with non-asphalt tackifier <br />2. hay or straw mulch with netting <br />3. hydromulch with tackifier. <br />On slopes greater than 60%, as identified in Exhibit 3A, one of two <br />mulching procedures shall be used: <br />i, hay or straw mulch with netting <br />2. hydromulch with tackifier. <br />Any of the mulching procedures above which are used, shall be used <br />according to the specifications below. <br />1. Hay or straw mulch, crimped: <br />Hay or straw mulch shall be applied uniformly at a rate of two tons <br />per acre. Mulch shall be pest and weed free. Approximately 30 <br />percent by weight of the mulch material shall be ten inches in <br />length or longer. Rotted, caked, decayed or moldy material will <br />not be accepted. A mulch crimper shall be used to anchor the mulch <br />into the soil after the hay or straw has been spread. The crimper <br />shall be equipped with scrapers to keep the blades clean. Spacing <br />of crimper blades shall not exceed nine inches. On areas Tess than <br />one acre, crimping may be achieved by hand with a suitable tool, <br />such as a spade, on eighteen inch centers. <br />2, Hay or straw mulch with tackifier, <br />Hay or straw mulch shall be applied as in treatment number 1 above, <br />except for crimping, Anon-asphalt tackifier shall be applied <br />uniformly over the mulch at a rate of 120 pounds per acre or, in <br />accordance with manufacturer's recommendations. <br />3. Hay or straw mulch with netting. <br />Hay or straw mulch shall be applied as in treatment number 1 above, <br />except for crimping. Erosion control netting shall be applied over <br />the straw. The erosion control netting shall be AMXCO <br />polypropylene netting as manufactured by American Excelsior <br />Company, or equivalent. <br />The netting shall be extruded polypropylene with approximately 1.5 <br />x 1.3 strands per inch, with a mesh opening of approximately 5/8" x <br />3/4". The netting shall be green. <br />-8- <br />
