The method for installing the silt
fence is fairly standard in the different publications and manuals.
Information on installation is probably also available from the
manufacturer from which you purchase the silt fence.
The anchoring specification, as noted in the enclosed information,
is to dig a trench approximately 6 inches deep and place the fabric
in the trench and cover with rocks and compacted soil so water can
not wash out under the fabric. I am not sure what you are
indicating regarding a "pull test" or anchoring strength. The main
installation technique according to the manuals is to place the
fence in a trench so water can not wash out under the fabric.
During field inspections we (myself and Tony), may have pulled on
the fence to make sure that it was installed appropriately. We
were not measuring the anchoring strength. Pulling on the fence is
an alternative to crawling around on our hands and knees.
I hope the information I have enclosed will be helpful to you.
Please call if you have any questions.
Specialist
CEJ/007SFIN
