f.
Reporting Period October 20, 1997 -October 27, 1997
3
Dewaterine Borehole Road: The french drain above the top of the redesigned cut slope, bulk
excavation, and rough grading for the entire revised access road alignment were completed. Final slope
grading is in progress. Minor water seepage continues on the east side cut slope as reported
previously. Survey monuments installed above the cut slope and french drain show a very minor
northward creep. Monitoring will continue.
Substation Slooe: Visual observations and survey data for the slope above the substation indicate
movement is continuing at a slow and gradual pace, with incremental movements decreasing over time.
No advancement of the head scarp further upslope and into the Landing #2 Road was observed. The
completed mid-slope french drain appears to be functioning effectively. Installation of a mid-slope
inclinometer/piezometer set, as recommended by Barr Engineering, is th progress. Monitoring will
continue.
Shaft Site # 1 and #2: The compacted soil buttress installed to stabilize the shallow slope failure on
the steep cut slope south of Shaft # 1 was observed on October 27. The buttress appears solid and no
new movement was visually detected. Slopes to the east side of the buttress area are also stable,
however, a new surficial slide approximately 20' high by 50' long occurred approximately 200' to the
west of the buttress, directly upslope from the lower baffled apron structure. This slide mass occurred
where the slope had been cut back for installation of the lower sediment ditch baffled apron, and
appears to have slid on the bedrock layer that is visible further east. Topsoil was salvaged and
transported to the topsoil pile east of the return shaft bench. The subsoil portion of the slide mass was
moved to the side and will be replaced as a buttress behind the ditch/batfled apron this week, after
these facilities are completed. Visual monitoring and collection of surface survey data will continue.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at (970) 929-2207.
Sincerely,
• ~~
Eric W.
