N'alcher
Executive Director
Michael B. Long
Division Director
Enclosed is a copy of an EPA report the DMG received on January 20, 2000 regarding their
recornmendations for groundwater monitoring in the San Luis azea. Basically, it appears, the
EPA was asked to evaluate the groundwater flow system in the vicinity of the Town of San Luis
with regazd to the potential for impacts to the town's public water supply from potential
contaminant sources as prioritized by the locals.
Mr. Muza, author of the report, made a few assumptions which may not be accurate but, were
used to determine the probability of a potential contaminant impact to the town's water wells.
You may want to address the report since it implies that activities at the "mine" a ill contaminate
the town's public water supply within 15 years. If you address the report, the Division would like
copies of your correspondence for the file.
The DMG intends to send a letter to Ms. Kathleen Reilly, WQCD, in order to clatify some of the
assumptions used in the report. A copy of the Division's letter will be sent to you.
If you have any questions, please give me a call.
Sincerely,
~.3_
ames Dillie
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: James Stevens, DMG
Enclosure
