He has also fenced an area around this gate. This gate is <br />approximately 50 feet from the County Road 21 entrance. I am concerned <br />about this because in the summer months the Cortez Fire Department uses <br />these roads to monitor lighting strikes in this area. It also concerns me that <br />this was not part of the BLM or permit agreement. <br />It is my understanding that Mr. Stone could control vehicle access to the pit <br />and mineral processing areas but the public access to public land and private <br />land will remain open. The road that he has gated and fenced is an access to <br />private land and public land. Therefore, this road should remain open. <br />I believe that it was also agreed that Mr. Stone would build up the access road <br />from County Road 21 to reduce further degradation to public land. As of this <br />date no such build-up as been done. <br />
