U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR <br />OFFICE OF SURFACE MINING <br />RECLAMATION AND ENFORCEMENT <br />Notice of a Decision and Availability <br />of an Environmental Assessment For <br />Bear No. 3 Mine <br />Bear Coal Company, Inc. <br />Gunnison, Colorado <br />The United States Department of the Interior, in accordance with <br />the Mineral Leasing Act of 1920, as amended, has approved Bear <br />Coal Company, Inc.'s mining plan for underground coal mining <br />activities at the Bear No. 3 mine in Federal leases D-052501 and <br />C-42481. The documentation for the decision was prepared by the <br />Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE). <br />This mining plan action was in accordance with 30 CFR Part 746. <br />The Bear No. 3 underground coal mine is located in Gunnison <br />County, Colorado, adjacent to the town of Somerset. The mine has <br />been in operation since 1934. This mining plan action authori2ed <br />mining of approximately 130,000 additional tons of Federal coal <br />in Federal leases D-052501 and C-42481. <br />Pursuant to 40 CFR Sections 1501.4 (e) and 1506.6, notice is <br />hereby given that OSMRE has found that no significant <br />environmental impacts would result from such approval based on an <br />Environmental Assessment prepared by OSMRE.
