Mining in the lease application area will be by underground methods. the primary mining method to Da used will be the Longwell method. One room- and-pillar panel is proposed in the northeast corner of the lease applica- tion area. The existing mine facilities will be used with no new facilities being constructed in the proposed lease area, other than degasification wells and the roads accessing them. Up to 7 degasification rolls may have to ba drilled ahead of the Longwell panels to vent methane gas that occurs from coal seams in the area. This is a safety measure to prevent explosions underground. Approximately 1 acre of disturbance rill occur with each drill hole for a total of up to 7 acres. In a hole drilled on the existing lease area, gas ras not released initially. The gas ras not released until the longrall panel paaaed the drill hole location. The gas flow rata and concentration rapidly deeceas- ed ones the accumulated gas was vented out. Should adjustments need to be lade to the mina plan to mitigate impacts to Red Wash, these same a4lustmenta rill ba applied to the proposed amendment within the lease application area.
