(WECC) has monitored the Cooper's hawk nests
located over the Northwest Submains and associated panels. It
was noted during this time that we found no nests over NW2S and
NW3S panels.
On May 23, 1990, Don deGraffenried, Kevin Jensen and I drove to
the same area in which you, Dennis Conn, and Don deGraffenried
found three nests in March. After some searching we located
the same three nests and found no activity. We then used
binoculars to check more closely and decided that none of the
nests were occupied. We then searched the area for more nests
and found none. While looking for nests we noticed that
several trees have been broken and blown down by spring winds.
On June 20, 1990, Don deGraffenried and I again went to the
same area and checked the same three nests. After deciding
that all three nests were still vacant we photographed the
nests and some of the aspen trees that have blown down.
We will continue to monitor and report to you as outlined in
our agreement of April 26, 1990.
Sincerely,
~~
Mike Price
cc: J.L.
