Results of reclamation sampling indicate production of less than
one pound per acre for orchard grass (Paiute) and small burnet (Delay) after the
forth and fifth years of ;seeding. Adequate stands were noted during the first few
years, but production has declined, and orchard grass and small burnet are no
longer a significant species on reclaimed area. With an average precipitation of
12.5 inches (past six years), the WRN site is probably too dry for these two
species to be successful..
If the DMG and BLM approve deletion of orchard grass and small burnet, scarlet
globemallow (~nheralcea coccinia), and Palmer's penstemon (Penstemon ao lmeri)
will be added to the reclamation species list, at a rate of 0.2 lbs. per acre each.
The globemallow (variety monroe) and penstemon (variety cedar) are more
adapted to dry conditions and both are native species. The species list change
would result in a total of seven grasses, five (orbs and three shrub species.
If there are any questions or need for additional information, please contact me.
Sincerely,
~k~~~
Ed Baker, REM
Envir./Safety Manager
cc: Meeker BLM
White River Ne~hcolite Minerals, Llmlted Llabllity Company
P.
