The coal aeam is at the surface on a 35° slope
that was excavated by previous mining. No topsoil or vegetation would be disturbed, as this is
already amining-exposed sun'ace.
Much of the coal at this locality is already broken. I would tolled this coal by picking up pieces
by hand. Additional sampling would be done by using a geologist's rock hammer and chisel. I
plan to place the coal in cardboard storage boxes. I estimate 40 to 50 pounds of coal per box. I
would haul the boxes from the mine using a U-haul truck.
My~ client' has not shared with me any information about their possible plans or projects.
However,.) do know the purpose of the sample will be exclusively for testing and analysis. They
are interested in sampling from this mine because d is the only place where fresh coal samples
can be obtained at the surface in this part of the San Juan Basin.
Mr. Ranney told me thal because the activity would be on an already disturbed surface, the
activity would in no way affect the permit or reclamation bond.
The owner of the mine, Ms. Sandra Pautsky, President, Oakridge Energy Inc., has requested
from me that your office send her written verification that my action as proposed would not affect
her permit or reclamation bond, Mr. Ranney is out of the office until July 8. I talked briefly with
Mr. David l3eiry and he said that he did not see a problem with your providing a note to Ms.
Pautsky.
Certified Pra(esslonal~G~-rologist, AIPG No. 9529 Rofessfonal Gealoglst, WY No. 2753
