3) Culvert Replacement/Ditch Maintenance
A.) Approximately 1800' up the mine access road, located between the sharp curve
to the east and the upper mine bench, an 18' length of 24" CSP has been installed to
pass flow from the outside road ditch through the road berm. The outlet end of the
CSP has been winched or otherwise bent to the paint that it is no longer functional.
The CSP segment needs to be excavated and removed from the site, and replaced with
a new 18' segment of 24" CSP. The 18' length is necessary so that discharge from
the outlet will fall onto competent sandstone ledges lower on the slope rather than
erode into the road embankment. The new CSP needs to be set in the original
location, covered, compacted, and the road berm rebuilt to its original dimensions.
B.) A short distance up the road from the CSP described above, another 24" CSP,
approximately 40' long, passes flow from the inside road ditch to the outside road
ditch. This CSP is plugged with sediment at its lower end, and needs to be cleaned
out. The short ditch segment (approximately 10 feet) between the CSP outlet and the
inlet to the CSP to be replaced has filled in with sediment and needs to be cleaned out.
C.1 A segment of the inside road ditch beginning approximately 90 ' up the road from
the inlet to the 40' CSP, and extending up along the road for approximately 60' has
filled in and needs to be reestablished. The ditch will be reconstructed to be at least
30" wide and 1' deep with 2:1 side slopes. A 4' X 4' X 4' sump will be excavated at
the inlet to the 40' CSP and compacted to provide proper alignment and discharge into
the CSP
3
