Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
American Soda submitted a letter on February 9, 2004 (dated February 4, 2004) requesting approval to
convert mining We1120-12 to a monitoring well. A Time Domain Reflectometry Cable (TDR) will be
placed inside the short string tubing to the top of the cement plug. American Soda proposes to monitor
the temperature of We1120-12 on a quarterly basis.
In addition, American Soda states that bonding for We1120-12 will remain in place during the time the
well is used for monitoring purposes until the well is plugged and abandoned.
The Division does not believe that a revision to the DMG Permit needs to be filed at this time for
converting We1120-12 to a monitoring well. However, if American Soda intends to change the plugging
and abandonment plan, then the Division should be notified and a determination will be made if such
change requires a revision to the pernrit.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 303-866-4943.
Sinc ,
• ~~
E c rosby
Environmental Protection Spe ' ' t
cc: ~azl Mount; DMG (via a-mail)
.glen Sorenson; DMG (via a-mail)
Kent Walter; BLM
Paul Daggett; BLM
Dan Jackson; EPA
Elisabeth Evans; EPA
Sandy Stavnes; EPA
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
