The
Hawk's Nest mine is located 22 miles east of Hotchkiss, Colorado in
Gunnison along a segment of old State Highway 133. The remaining
work to be conducted at the Hawk's Nest Mine include demolition of
the two (2) coal silos, conveyor system and truck dump scale as
well as removal of the coal material from the coal stockpile.
The Coal Silo Facility area contains roughly 10,000 cy to 15,000 cy
of coal material from the existing coal stockpile area. The
Division sampled the coal material in September and sent it to
Commercial Testing and Engineering using the short prox and the
ultimate analysis. On September 20, 1993 I spoke with you
regarding Tri-State's possible interest in the remaining coal
material located at the Hawk's Nest Mine. The Division would like
to give this material to Tri-State Generation at no cost. Tri-
State Generation would need to pick up the material at the Hawk's
Nest Mine using company haul trucks, or hiring a contractor to pick
up the coal material.
Please review the attached analysis of the coal material to
determine if Tri-State Generation is interested in the material.
The Division is willing to work out any other possible arrangements
with Tri-State.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at 866-
3567. Your immediate response iri this matter would be appreciated.
Sinc ely,
~s
Erica S. Crosby
Environmental Prot ion Specialist
