Specifically these activities are a
prescribed burn, to be accomplished in the late-summer/early fall, and dewatering of Brasil-Simms pond to
accommodate mining in Browning Pit.
The prescribed burn was initially approved by CMLRD in 7987 (MR50) but was postponed in 1987 and
again in 1988 due to severe dry conditions. Initially, 750 acres was to be burned, however, due to the
advance of Ashmore Pi[, approximately 400 acres are proposed for burning in 1989. As before the
Colorado State Forest Service, with assistance from the local Bureau of Land Management, will conduct
the burn. Attached is the 1989 burn plan proposal.
De-watering of the Brasil-Simms pond is scheduled to occur during the early-mid summer period. Water
from this pond may be pumped from the pond via surface pipe to a location along our Colt pit haul road
that drains to Coyote drainage and ultimately the Coyote water impoundment. An alternate method is to
extend surface pipe from the pump station to adjacent cropland areas and irrigate with pivot sprinklers. As
with pit dewatering, appropriate records will be kept concerning the volume of water pumped and will be
reported to the Division in our Annual Report for 1989 (Due March 15, 1990).
Tony, 'rf you have any questions, please contact me.
WA/rbb/D33
pc J.M.
