driven from submains a distance of approximately 440 feet from the centerline
of the submains . The entries are 18 to 20 feet wide. Pillars will be
developed on 100-foot by 100-foot centers for all mains and 60-foot by 100-
foot centers for all submains.
Raw coal is transported by conveyor from the Roadside Mine to the wash plant
at the Roadside Mine site . When the Cameo Mine is reactivated raw coal will
be transported by truck to the wash plant. The wash plant separates waste
rock from the clean coal . Clean coal is transported by conveyor 1 . 3 miles
from the wash plant at Roadside to the rail loadout. The coal processing
waste from the wash plant is trucked to the Cameo Refuse Disposal Area No. 2
west of the Cameo Mine . Cameo Refuse Area No. 1 (CRDA NO. 1 ) has been
inactive since 1988 but is not complete. To reactivate this area, the
operator needs to provide a demonstration of the stability of CRDA No. 1 . One
additional refuse disposal area, Cameo Refuse Disposal Area No. 3, is planned
to be constructed west of the existing disposal area. CRDA No. 3 is not
expected to be built during the 1993-1998 five-year permit term.
Description of the Operation Plan
Surface Water Sediment Control System
Information on the surface water sediment control system can be found
beginning on page 164 of the permit application. A list of sediment control
structures , along with references to appropriate exhibits for designs and
cross sections , are found in Table 2.05.3 of the application. Calculations
used to design these structures are given in various appendixes to the permit
application. Findings relevant to the sediment control system are found in
Section B. II . of this document.
All surface runoff from disturbed areas is routed through one of ten sediment
ponds:
Area of Disturbance Sediment Ponds Other Structures
Rail Loadout Ponds #1 , #2 Berm, short ditch
Cameo Portal Ponds #4, #5 Diversion, berms and ditches
North Decline Pond #7 Diversions , berm, ditches and sumps
Roadside Portal Ponds #8, #9 Diversion, berms , collection pipes
Cameo Refuse Disposal
Area #1 Pond #6 Berm, underdrain , ditches
Cameo Refuse Disposal
Area #2 Pond #10 Diversion, ditches
Cameo Refuse Disposal
Area #3 Pond #11 Diversion, ditches
Sediment control structures associated with Cameo Refuse Disposal Area #3 have
not been built to date. Sediment pond #3 does not exist.
Small Area Exemptions
Information on areas of mine caused disturbance not served by sediment ponds
for which small area exemptions have been proposed can be found listed on
Table 2.05.3 M of the permit application .
