On October 6, 1993, the Application Pursuant to Bankruptcy <br />Code Section 503 (b) of the United Steelworkers of America <br />AFL-CIO-CLC and Certain of Its Professionals, for Payments of <br />Actual, Necessary, Expenses and Compensation for Professional <br />Services in Makinq a Substantial Contribution in these Cases <br />(Docket Number 2533) (the °Application"), came on for hearing. <br />Richard M. Seltzer appeared on behalf of the United Steelworkers <br />of America (the "USWA"). Steven J. McCardell of LeBoeuf, Lamb, <br />Leiby & MacRae, and Weston L. Harris of Ray, Quinney ~ Nebeker <br />appeared on behalf of the Reorganized Debtors. Robert D. Merrill <br />appeared on behalf of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. <br />William M. McAllister appeared on behalf of Oregon Steel Mills, <br />Inc. and CFI Steel Works, LP. <br />The Application sought allowance and payment of a total of <br />$1,045,316.01 comprised of the following fees and expenses of <br />professionals of the United Steelworkers of America (the "USWA"): <br />Cohen, Weiss & Simon <br />Arnold & Porter <br />Keilin and Bloom <br />es <br />$71,469.50 <br />$46,538.00 <br />$900,000.00 <br />Expenses <br />$14,865.02 <br />0 <br />$12,443.49 <br />The Reorganized Debtors had previously filed an objection to the <br />Application that requested that the .Court disallow all of the <br />requested fees and expenses except for $9,547.01 in fees and <br />$1,268.52 in expenses of Cohen, Weiss & Simon. <br />At the October 6 hearing, the USWA advised the Court that <br />settlement negotiations had occurred between the USWA and the <br />2 <br />
