~ ~ III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
COAL COMPANY
March 30, 1984
Mr. Rudy Fontanari
3316 F 3/4 Road
Clifton, Colorado 81520
Dear Mr. Fontanari:
As you are aware, we are very concerned about your proposed mining activities
in the Rapid Creek Area East of Palisade.
Powderhorn Coal Company has a ventilation shaft within 1000 feet of the
proposed disturbed area. In addition, we have been working with the current
owner's of the Go-Boy Coal Mine, the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division,
and the Mine Safety and Health Administration for several months in an attempt
to extinguish the underground fire at the Go-Boy Mine. We have recently
isolated the combustion area which we now believe is being provided with fresh
air by surface cracks above the mine's old workings. Finally, Powderhorn Coal
Company has spent considerable time and money in our efforts to minimize any
impacts on the Rapid Creek Area.
We will be unable to fully evaluate the impacts of your proposed activities
until we have an opportunity to review your CMLRD Permit Application, which
we feel must address the following areas:
• Operations Plan
• Explosive Blasting Plan
• Reclamation Plan
• Air and Water Quality Impact Mitigation Plan
• Noise and Visual Impact Mitigation Plan
We will be happy to review your CMLRD Permit Application whenever it is ready.
Since\~ ~Cd~N
mes G.
