• 1.0 INTRODOUCTION • This report presents the information required under the Colorado Mine Land Reclama- tion Board, Exhibit 1, So11 Information, for soils along a portion of the mine haul road to be widened. Also included are some data for fill, stockpiled soils, and • soils to De stripped from the pit areas. Presented in this report are: o A map delineating different soils along a one mile section of road o A map legend • o Soil profile descriptions o Land capabilities of the soils o Evaluation of the soils as a reconstruction material for disturbed lands o Volumes of suitable reconstruction material available ~ o Fertilizer Recommendations. The soil map (in pocket) was made during May 1979, of the section of road to be disturbed. The map is at a scale of one inch equals 400 feet (1:4,800). The soil ~ map legend (Section 2.0), describes the series, their occurrence, moisture-tempera- ture regime, and the percentage of the map unit each series occupies. Four soil series descriptions of the principal soils of the permit area are pre- • seated in Section 3.0. These descriptions have been photocopied directly from the SCS established survey descriptions and the additions and changes are theirs. In addition, detailed profile descriptions of three of the principal soils of the permit area were collected in the field in May, 1979. These descriptions are • included in Appendix I. Land capabilities for each soil type are presented in Section 4.0. The soils are not suitable for cultivation but are suitable as rangeland. • The evacuation of the soils of the permit area as sources of reconstruction material for disturbed lands is reported in Section 5.0. The methodology used in the evalua- tion is explained in Section 5.1. The results of soil analytical testing of nine • soil samples from three profiles, one sample of fill material from the road, a sample from the topsoil stockpile on the road, a sample from the topsoil stockpile ~ _1_ I•
