CaBany
Division Director
Natual Resource Trustee
Please find enclosed a copy of the 2003 vegetation report for the vegetation data collected at
the Rimrock mine during June of 2003. Included is a short memo from Janet Binns
concerning both sample adequacy and a determination of the overall success of the
reclamation efforts regarding achieving revegetation standards for the mine site. Unlike last
year, it appears that data collected in 2003 demonstrates that the site meets and/or exceeds
the applicable standards for cover, productivity, and species diversity.
As we mentioned last year, for Phase III release, 90% of the standard must be achieved for
the final two years of the liability period. Therefore, one more consecutive year of data
showing success in achieving all standards is necessary. The Division is planning to sample
the site again this growing season. We will let you know as soon as the details are known
concerning the timing of this sampling effort.
If you have any questions about the data or the process in general, please contact me.
Sincer y,
Ken .Gorham
Environmental Protection Specialist
Ofrice of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
