Three types of passage structures were installed and
dimensions of each type are found in Tables 7-10. Type I,
(Culvert overpass structures), were constructed as circular
earthen ramps bisected by the conveyor. These bridges were
at least 5.8 meters wide and 30 cm of soil were placed on
top of the structure. Approach ramps were constructed to
fan out 180 degrees at the toe of the fill slope. Overpass
ramps were constructed with approach widths of 5 ramps
averaging 13.2 meters and one extra wide ramp (Station OP-4)
with an approach width of 64 meters (Table 7). Animals
observed at this station took more time to graze while
crossing the ramp and tracks appeared less crowded due to
the increased area and vegetation at the top and sides of
the ramp. A typical cross sectional side view of the
structure is illustrated in Figure 4. Photograph 1 shows
mule deer track set across a snow covered 12 meter long
culvert overpass. During one transect run, a mule deer was
photographed grazing on top of a culvert overpasss (OP-1)
structure - Photograph 2.
Top of Ftll
Culvert
Figure 4.
